Dan’s Epic Ride & Joel’s Tremendous Trek for Alzheimer’s Society

Dan and Christa Harrison have raised an incredible £3,941.00 for Alzheimer’s Society after completing two epic challenges. Well done!

Dan, Manager of Newark-based Falcon Motors Self-Drive, cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats, 980 miles in nine days! He was one of 1,000 cyclists who took part in the 2019 Deloitte Ride Across Britain during September, tackling some of the most beautiful and scenic landscape accessible on two wheels.

Less than a month earlier Christa had completed her own charity challenge, the Newark Half-Marathon. Their combined fundraising total smashed their original £2200 target.

Alzheimer’s Society is close to the hearts of Dan and Christa. It is also the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today.

Joel Wallis from Andover Self-Drive sadly lost his dad, Ray to Alzheimer’s and Motor Neurone disease in December 2018. In memory of his dad, Joel embarked on a grueling 26-mile trek in the Brecon Beacons, raising more than £2,500 for Alzheimer’s Society in the process.

After seeing his dad deteriorate so quickly, Joel was determined to help raise awareness of the cruel disease by fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society. His friend Phil joined him in his mission.

Joel commented, “After losing my dad, I just wanted to challenge myself and do something to remember him while raising money for a cause that’s very close to my heart. It felt great to complete the challenge and I’ll hopefully be embarking on some more treks in the future, continuing to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society.”

Joel’s 11-hour trek included Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales, at a massive 866 metres above sea level. He is already looking at the next challenge and has his sights set on completing a 50 km trek in September 2020.

We’d like to say a huge well done and congratulations to Joel for raising an impressive figure for such a great cause.
